The first remake of the paranoid infiltration classic shifts the invasion's setting from a small town to the city of San Francisco and begins with Matthew Bennell noticing that several of his friends are complaining that their close relatives are different in some way. When questioned later, they appear to have changed, as they deny everything or make pathetic excuses. As the invaders grow in number, they become more open, and Bennell, who has already witnessed an attempted "replacement," realizes that he and his friends must flee or face the same fate. But who can he rely on for assistance, and who has already been kidnapped?
