Jonas, a Parisian in his 40s, has not gotten over his ex-girlfriend Léa and continues to feel an intense passion for her. After he knocks on her door to tell her how he feels about her, but she doesn't want to talk to him, he winds up at the café on the lower level. After being struck by inspiration, he avoids everything he was intended to do that day in order to settle down and write her a lengthy love letter instead. What starts out as a desperate attempt to get her back unexpectedly evolves into a deep reflection on the way his life is going in general. Jonas is forced to confront his previous relationships, his uncertain future, and most importantly, himself, over the course of one day with the assistance of a wisecracking bartender and an assortment of customers from the surrounding neighborhood.
