Matt Cruse's unnerving psychosexual chiller The Watcher Self is about a woman's slide into hell and was written and directed by him. Cora (Karen French) wakes up in the middle of the night, dealing with the aftermath of a nightmare. She engages in a series of emotionally distant interactions and has a perplexing psychological connection with the weird and elusive Van, while she struggles to maintain a normal routine (Julian Shaw). Cora gets increasingly disconnected from her surroundings as echoes from the past threaten to ruin her shaky mental condition. Is she losing her mind, or is there anything else going on? The Watcher Self is about what's left once the layers of sanity are slowly peeled away... and what may or may not be genuine.
